Changes coming.

You have nothing to worry about. Bixit.net isn’t going anywhere.

There are some much needed improvements coming. For one, some better plugins to spice up the system here. For two, we’ll be getting a redesign done by none other than an1ken himself. If you’re not aware of an1ken and his talented crew, you might want to visit one of his greater ventures, www.creativeoverflow.net Check it out.

There are a great number of things happening in the world that many aren’t aware of, or are too complex for some people to understand. I’m going to be getting involved in some of these things. You’ll find out what I mean soon.

Still Alive Mr. Taliban

First off I want to apologize for the complete neglect of bixit.net as well as my other ventures including fragleague.com and asoldier.net. I was recently deployed with the 101^st to Afghanistan in order to suppress some nasty Taliban insurgencies springing up aroun the Kandahar area. Unfortunately in late September I was struck by an IED which took most of my right leg, and my left leg just above the knee. I will walk again, eventually. It is an uphill battle that I will have to fight. Fortunately my life was not taken, and I was able to preserve tree or four others who may have been killed or seriously injured by the blast. Because of that I was awarded the Silver Star by Gen. Campbell, as well as my Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge for confronting the enemy in an engagement and being wounded.

My plans for the future are pretty straight forward. I plan to begin taking college courses immediately, and I will be looking forward to building a home somewhere soon. I will always endeavor to help those in need. Especially artists and designers who do not have the means to make themselves known or have their own place to start. Webspace and bandwidth aren’t much, but I will help where I can. I’ve always been a soldier. I am here to help when needed, protect when affected, and defend when engaged. I will never stop being who I am no matter what happens to me.

Bixit.net will not go away, and will continue to be updated as I find time and points of interest. As well as my personal websites and other public interests. Do not forget the motto, “Everybody Fights!, Nobody Quits!”. I will always hold true to that motto, and I will never quit.

Finding Time…

Time seems to be the one resource we never have enough of. You can take time, but it’s incredibly hard to make time. You can’t stockpile it, backorder, or even inventory it. So, when it comes down to it, the time you’ve got right now is all the time you’re ever going to have.

With that in mind, what’s the best way to use your time? Here’s a few ideas…

Write your resume

Build your portfolio

Assemble a budget

Find paperwork for your taxes

All of these things, especially the last one are things we put off till the last minute, or when it becomes an emergency. Don’t wait. These are things that can cause stress over time, creating a distraction, and causing you costly time. TAKE the time now, and you’ll be MAKING time for other things you’d much more enjoy doing later. You can find helpful tips by using your search engines, or visiting your library for a nifty “how-to” book. Taking time, making time.

Bixit.net may go for a spell without any updates. This is due to several events taking place in my life. Since I am the only publisher for this domain, there may not be any updates whatsoever until I return. I seriously hope this is not the case, but what can I do?

Microsoft Popfly dies Aug 24

For those of you who were considering, or already use Popfly, the service is being discontinued on August 24 of this year. I got the email this morning from John Montgomery who apparently created the suedo gaming/social network. Although Popfly wasn’t the first of it’s kind, it did set a kind of trend, for other gaming-oriented social networks to follow.

There aren’t many Microsoft projects that come off as cool as Popfly, but there are a few others that may bring your spirits up if you feel somewhat disappointed by this terrible news.

If you’re looking into creating your own social network, you should really check out NING. NING is a social network for building social networks. Simple-yet-confusing right? NING allows you to build a social network (complete) within the social network itself. For a small price, you can isolate your social network form the rest of the NING group, and attach your own domain.

For those of you stuck on a gaming social network, there’s a couple of options. For one, Raptr. Raptr is a social network, and a gamer collaboration tool. It allows gamers (for PC and consoles) to connect, share info, chat, and find other people who play their games. It alerts you about new achievments, and the network is still growing.

Another cool network is a gaming social media network called WeGame. The network is very cool. You can create your own gaming videos, machinima, screenshots etc, upload and share. There is a rank and achievement system, but no one’s sure what it’s there for site is cool enough. And if you’re not psyched about it yet, they have their own PC game recording client. The WeGame client allows you to capture (realtime) video of your PC games with full audio, and of course, screenshots. The client uploads the videos for you on the spot.

Microsoft has some interesting bits of software that may help you suppliment your addiction to other social networks by easily allowing you to set up your own. The Microsoft Web Platform Installer will customize and install a massive assortment of various server software plugins, web applications and assorted other goodies.

If you’re interested in creating your own XBOX games, check out Microsoft XNA and Microsoft Kodu (very cool this one).

Site5 is one of (if not the) best website hosting companies out there. They offer massive deals for next-to-nothing prices. I’ve been with them for years and they’re the best I’ve found so-far.

They’re looking for a couple of skilled pros willing to step up. Site5 needs an advanced ROR coder and a Xen/VPS expert. If you think you’ve got the stuff, send them your resume and/or background. Interested?

We just upgraded to WP v 2.8 so which appears promising. We’ve registered with Akismet so maybe we can lose some of the spam, and get back to doing what we do best.

Ah! It works. So now that we’re all here, it’s time to do something useful!

Very soon we will be posting up all of the useful, helpful time-saving and FREE things we can find. If it’s free, and it’s useful, we’ll blog it here. Of-course we can’t blog EVERY SINGLE THING, but if you know of something we should mention, you should definitely let us know. We’ll check it out. If it’s worthy (free, useful, saves time… free) then we’ll post it here.
