Thank you so much for everything you've done for our country and our freedom. We all owe you so much, and you deserve better. You are a truly selfless man, and a hero to everyone. Thank you. Also, besides being a war-time hero, you are a hero to many artists, including the artists at the Luminarium. I hope you enjoyed the exhibit we dedicated to you.

We were simply supposed to walk on foot to meet some town elders to discuss how we could help improve security for their homes, and possibly improve their local economy and infrastructure. We were clearing our path by using military dogs to sniff out explosives and metal detectors. My job was to pick up the markings we used to identify a safe path when we crossed areas likely to have IEDs embedded. The rest of my platoon had already entered a ditch at the end of a potato field and the beginning of some vineyards. The ditch was about shoulder high so getting in was the easy part. Climbing out, not so much. As soon as I picked up the last marking and shoved it in my pocket, we were engaged by several insurgents with all manner of small arms, and RPGs. The first RPG went over my head and my ANA team members who I was in charge of cowered in the ditch instead of fighting with the rest of the platoon. My platoon sergeant gave the order to prepare to fall back in order to regroup and prevent being bottled up at a choke point. As soon as my ANA team members heard it, they all got up to run out of the ditch back into the potato field to run away from the enemy, and I managed to grab two of them, but the third got away. I yelled at him in Dari, Pashto, and English, but he wouldn't hear it and kept going. He was running straight into an uncleared area where I knew there were likely to be some pressure plates or mines. So, I lunged out of the ditch, grabbed him by his collar and threw him back, and as soon as I did, something exploded and took out my legs. The rest is a blur, but I remember being dragged and lifted into the helicopter and telling my platoon sergeant I hated him. I regret those words, but there you have it. I would be more than happy to answer any more questions.
